Camper Bike! It's a functional art piece designed by Kevin Cyr. So cool! Right now the piece is on display at the Mixed Greens Gallery in New York, part of a group show called "Gimme Shelter." Via Coldsplinters.
My sister is currently biking across the country, Providence to San Francisco. She's raising money for an organization called Bike and Build, that helps to provide affordable housing to people who have none. Right now she's in Kansas and kicking ass. Check out her blog, Sideways Distractions. Take a peek at her biker profile (and donate money!) here.
Illustration for an article on baby boomers hitting retirement I really dig Brian Rea. His editorial illustrations are clever and delightful, and his lettering and drawings styles are completely magnetic. Check out his large-scale diagrams of his fears, made for an exhibit called Murals at the Juan MirĂ³ Foundation in Barcelona. I particularly like his fear of "moose attacks;" hello thorough.
Rea was interviewed by Mia Hansen at PLAY. My favorite part was his response to the question, "What is the coolest thing you have seen recently while wandering the streets?": "One moment certainly stands out since I've been here in NYC - I was way up on Broadway passing by an enormous food market - the kind with all the produce spilling out along the sidewalk and I noticed a tiny old lady standing in front of a green plywood display of celery, iceberg lettuce, baby spinach, green peppers, green cucumbers, green bananas, green beans and green avocados. She was dressed in a bright green wool pea coat, bright green rubber boots and a bright green knit cap with little green wool beads sticking out like a pineapple - couldn't have been more than 4 feet tall. She stood quietly hand picking and inspecting individual snap snow peas, a whole bag full and placing them into a little green grocery basket. The only other color besides green in the whole scene was her white hair sticking out from her cap. I almost passed out."
Hello! My name is Emily Walsh. I live in Maine. Armfuls of Show and Tell is a collection of things that light me up. Sometimes I put up my own art, though you can also see it here, and I often do artist interviews. Enjoy!
